Friends for Life began in January 1997 when a steering committee was formed to study
the need for a crisis pregnancy center in Searcy and the surrounding communities. The ministry was incorporated and
the Board of Directors was seated for the governing of the non-profit corporation, Friends for Life, Inc. in the fall of 1997.
Finally after many months of waiting and preparing, the opening of Friends for Life became a reality June 1, 1998.
It is our desire to provide vital information, emotional support, and spiritual encouragement to women so
they are better prepared to make healthy decisions in pregnancy related crisis. Decisions made during crisis pregnancies
are often made impulsively or without adequate information. A pregnancy becomes a crisis when a woman perceives the
circumstances to be threatening to her well-being. Many women facing an unwanted pregnancy see their situation as so
threatening that they are unable to be objective, and often act out of fear or impulse.
A woman's well-being starts with being well-informed. The heart of the ministry Friends
for Life is to be a resource for women so they can gain knowledge, have a non-judgmental, caring individual
to help them think through the options and the resulting consequences, and gain information regarding alternatives to abortion.
Friends for Life has as its mission to provide a warm, caring and safe environment
where unconditional love is demonstrated. Using God's Word as the standard, women are encouraged to examine their behavior
and beliefs. This begins the process whereby God can work in their hearts, instilling hope.
Friends for Life also has part of its vision, a ministry to those who have suffered
the spiritual and emotional damage of abortion. Often, the aftermath of abortion leaves women with feelings of guilt
and regret. These women need to find forgiveness and healing made possible by a loving and forgiving God.
Friends for Life will have many opportunities to minister to single women who are
sexually active, but not pregnant. It is our desire to help them think through the consequences and related problems
of their sexual activity; such as unwanted pregnancy, disease, abortion, broken relationships, and frustrated hopes.
Friends for Life lovingly encourages women to examine their lifestyle choices in
light of the Word of God in hopes to alleviate the pain and heartache associated with living outside God's standards.
We want to offer them hope that lifestyle changes can be made with the help of the One who changes hearts, and through the
support of their friends at Friends for Life.
